Shrink / Swell Susceptible Geology
Those geological deposits that are most likely to shrink and swell are well
known and mostly occur in south east UK.
The main hazardous shrink/swell
geological formations are:
-
London Clay Formation, (generally not
in the Dorset, Hampshire and Sussex)
To a lesser extent:
-
Kimmeridge Clay Formation
The London Clay and Gault
formations are both found in south east this is also the area most likely to
droughts. The London Clay Formation in the Hampshire Basin is less susceptible.
